Pest Facts: Acrobat Ants
Description
This ant gets its name from its habit of raising the abdomen over the thorax and head. These tiny insects range in size from one-sixteenth of an inch to one-eighth of an inch long.

Habits:
Acrobat ants have a slight preference for sweets and high protein foods. They feed primarily on honeydew from aphids.
Habitat:
Typically nest in wood which has been subjected to high moisture and fungal decay inside structures. They will also nest in Styrofoam insulation panels and in wall voids.
Threats:
A stinger is present and workers may emit a repulsive odor when alarmed.
Prevention:
Eliminate standing water. Pests such as Acrobat ants are attracted to moisture. Keep tree branches and other plants cut back from the house. Sometimes pests use these branches to get into your home. Make sure that there are no cracks or little openings around the bottom of your house. Sometimes pests use these to get into your home. Make sure that firewood and building materials are not stored next to your home. Ants like to build nests in stacks of wood.
