Pest Facts: Weevils
The Granary Weevil and the Rice Weevil are the two most common weevils that infest whole kernel grains in the home. They are one of the most important pests of food products in the home. They are worldwide in distribution.

These weevils attack a wide variety of whole kernel food products such as corn, wheat, rice, beans, rye, stored cotton, and any type of whole kernel grains.
The Granary weevil can fly and is not attracted to the light. The Rice weevil can also fly and is attracted to light.
Both beetles destroy food and can contaminate food products.
Dried food products should be inspected thoroughly for signs of beetle infestations. Discard infested foods in outdoor trash bins. Clean infested cupboards thoroughly with a vacuum and soap and water. Store food in sealed containers.
