It's not just the pests that home and business owners in Texas need to worry about. The growth of mold in one's attic, crawl space, bathroom or ductwork can lead to major structural damage and a myriad health problems. At Worldwide Pest Control, we want the residents of Austin and San Antonio to know that they should ask for immediate treatment the moment they find mold on their property.
In the more than 30 years that we've been in business, we've performed remediation for mold infestations of all sizes. Our professional team works in homes, apartments, commercial properties and government properties.
What Is Mold?
Mold is a fungus, and technically, its spores are always in the air we breathe. Many mold species produce what are called mycotoxins: toxins that can cause runny noses and sneezing in some and more severe conditions like respiratory issues and even brain damage in others. High levels of mold, then, pose a definite danger.
Mold grows in areas that are warm (temperatures between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit) and humid (relative humidity levels of 60% or more). It thrives in damp conditions, too, so it can grow in the wake of flooding or around roof, window and pipe leaks. It can also enter your property through vents, windows and HVAC systems. Mold is often found on wood, tile and grout, carpeting and furniture.
How to Eliminate Mold
Perhaps you're not sure if mold is in your property but your family or your employees are showing symptoms of possible mold exposure. Or it could be that you've noticed the musty smell that mold creates. In that case, we could come over for mold testing. We would not only measure mold levels in each room but also collect any samples of what might appear to be mold. We could also collect air samples.
While it is impossible to remove all mold from the air, we can remove it from those structures that are infested. Our team can wipe down walls, for example, with an antimicrobial agent that won't harm your health or the environment. We can also make use of vacuums with a HEPA filtration system. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air, and these filters are proven to be the most effective in removing and trapping pollutants like mold.
In the case of serious infestations, we may seal the entire area before getting to work. Any kind of disruption will, of course, disperse the mold spores. When mold is so ingrained in a structure that it cannot be salvaged, then we tell customers that the structure must be replaced. Wood and other porous materials may not respond well to treatment.
At the end, we may set up a HEPA-filtered air scrubber to trap the remaining mold spores that were kicked up while we worked.
