What Are the Three Most Common Spiders to Find in Your Home?

There are several spiders that are commonly found in homes in the United States. Are your senses tingling? – Continue on to learn more on the behaviors and identification of three of the most common spiders to find in your home.

1. American House Spider

These spiders are less than an inch in size and are brown with yellow or orange legs. They love to invade your home because they particularly like the warmth and darkness, along with a water source.

House spiders like to spin sticky webs that catch their prey and will usually reside in your home anywhere from two to five years. They are generally harmless to humans and animals besides causing allergies.

Worldwide Pest Control will remove them for you.

2. Wolf Spider

Wolf spiders range in size from 1/2 inch to 1 and 1/4 inches and can be identified by their tan or brown bodies with dark, large shapes on their back. They also have thick, hairy legs and move quickly across your floor.

These spiders like dark and damp areas and love places such as basements, garages, crawlspaces, window wells and woodpiles. The wolf spider will eat other insects that invade its territory which makes it often, a welcomed house guest.

They are very common to find around the house because they like to search for food at night when you’re not around, which is why you’ll often see them when you walk into a dark room.

One good thing about the wolf spider is that it is not poisonous or aggressive towards humans and will only bite if constantly provoked.

Worldwide Pest Control’s Residential Pest Services can help rid you of your spider problem.

3. Black Widow

The black widow is one of the most venomous spiders in North America. Only the female is poisonous. The males are about half the size of the females and have a yellow body with two red spots on their back. The females have an entirely black body with a red hourglass pattern on their abdomen.

They are typically found hanging under objects or in dark corners where they can often surprise you when turning on a light switch. It’s not advised to kill them because they also play a big role in keeping other insects away from your home which can cause damage if left alone. They are known for biting people constantly so it’s important to seek medical attention immediately if you are bitten by one.
