Three Signs Your Hotel Room Has Bed Bugs

Writer's picture: Darrin MillerDarrin Miller

Traveling is one of the best parts of summer. Exploring new places and enjoying the sites is a great way to spend your summer vacation. However, it isn’t fun when you unknowingly bring home bed bugs. Hotels are common places to find bed bugs and become a host. It is important to check for signs of an infestation in order to prevent bringing any home. Keep reading for three signs that your hotel room has bed bugs.

1-Blood Stains on Bedding

A common sign of bed bugs is blood stains on the comforter, sheets and pillowcases. This is a result of being bitten during the night. You may also discover that you have bloodstains on your pajamas as a result of these bites. Stains can also be found on the chairs or couches in the room, around the mattress or frame. As bed bugs enjoy hiding, you will really have to look in the crevices of the furniture or along the seams of pillows, headboards or the mattress. Check in the floorboards, in the corners of the nightstands and even under lamps. These pests can hide virtually anywhere due to their small size.

2-Musty Odor

As these pests shed their skin and leave their excrement behind, you will notice an odor in the room. Usually it has a strong musty scent. Of course, a musty smell can also be a sign of mold so you will need to check for other signs before determining that it is a bed bug infestation.

3-Detecting Motion After Pulling Back Bedding

If you notice movement after entering the room, pulling back the sheets, or placing your luggage on the rack then it may be bed bugs. As bed bugs hide out of sight, it can be difficult to see them. This is why, as stated earlier, you need to check the room. If you do happen to see one, you will notice that the fully grown bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed and the younger ones are about the size of a poppy seed. Their bodies are flatter and their coloring is either a brownish red (adults) or tan (younger).

If you have unknowingly brought home bed bugs after traveling, don’t handle it on your own. Contact the experts at Worldwide Pest Control.
